Arequipa is known as “La Cuidad Blanca” (The White City), thanks to the beautiful historical centre which is constructed from white volcanic rock. Lying in a valley surrounded by Andean mountains and dormant volcanoes, Arequipa is a gorgeous colonial city with a population of 860,000 inhabitants, making it Peru’s second largest city however it is cosmopolitan while still maintaining a lovely, small-town feel.
The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to the architecture and buildings and its proximity to the Colca Canyon, the biggest canyon in the world, guarantees a steady flow of international tourists all year long.
