Arequipa is known as “La Cuidad Blanca” (The White City), thanks to its beautiful historical centre which is constructed from white volcanic rock. Lying in a valley surrounded by Andean mountains and dormant volcanoes, Arequipa is a gorgeous colonial city with a population of 860,000 inhabitants. It is Peru’s second-largest city and the second most popular tourist destination after Cusco. Despite being a cosmopolitan city, it still maintains a lovely, small-town feel.
The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and its proximity to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world, guarantees a steady flow of international tourists all year long.
Our TEFL Certificate course is held at Samana Wasi Hospedaje, where our trainees also stay for the month. This means it is super convenient and allows our trainees to concentrate on their studies without the stress of travelling to the course each day. Samana Wasi is ideally located in the historical city centre, a five-minute walk from the Plaza de Armas with lots of restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance.
Our trainees stay at Samana Wasi Hospedaje, a family-run hospedaje in the historical city centre of Arequipa for the month. Our course packages include a private room with a bathroom, hot water, Wi-Fi and breakfast daily (eggs, bread, butter, jam, tea/coffee and fresh juice).
TO SEE & DO
Samana Wasi offers a variety of tours including the following:
- Trekking in the Colca Canyon to see the giant condors
- Hiking up the Misti and Chanchani volcanos
- Whitewater rafting in the Rio Chili
- Biking on the Pichu Pichu volcano
- Trekking through the Valley of the Volcanos
- Visiting the medicinal hot springs
Arequipa boasts spring-like weather all year long, with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. The climate of the city is predominantly dry in winter, autumn and spring due to the low atmospheric moisture. Throughout the year, temperatures do not exceed 25 °C (77 °F) and rarely drop below 10 °C (50 °F).
GETTING TO AREQUIPA
